In today's First Gear (actually the first First Gear, unless you count yesterday's) I take a look at the Beer Can truck, the 2015 F150!
MILITARY GRADE ALUMINUM.
Military grade, but the whole thing feels more like a car than any pickup I've ever been in. Gear shifters that move like a hot knife through butter. Electric steering that's cranked to 15. Seriously, think and you will turn. ACRES OF DASHBOARD. An infotainment screen the size of a jumbotron. And it's too cramped. I honestly felt like I was sitting on the center console and the door rest at the same time, and I'm a small guy. "But wait!" It cries. "I'm still a truck!" I mean, there's still a transfer case, a bed, and the like. Off road apps too. Oh and the electronic locker. AND ALL THE TORQUE at least in the 5.0, which is all I've driven.
All in all though, you can definitely tell Ford realizes how many people buy trucks to use as a family hauler. Yet I still love them.
First Gear is a new column, about a kid, a car lot full of new cars, and a habit of noticing random things. It's written from the view of a Ford dealer's lot attendent who for some reason thinks you care about the cars he spends very little time in. He also thinks you actually care about his random thoughts and will randomly post them to Oppositelock at his leisure. Just don't give him an excuse to break into full reviews. He can't handle that level of greatness.

A new Explorer or older? I could possibly do them both eventually. Driven quite a few explorers of various years
